Internships & Jobs

McTear’s offers six week unpaid internships, working within the company to gain an insight into the day to day operations of a busy independent auction house. The internships offer successful applicants with an interest in art and antiques placements throughout the year.

Internship Gateway
An introduction to internships runs for an eight day period once every five weeks. You will be involved in every aspect of a busy auction week, including gallery preparation, viewing assistance, client liaison, clerking, telephone bid operation, live internet bidding and general administration.

Six Week Internship
A limited number of six week internships are available throughout the year. Following on from the Internship Gateway, the successful applicant will gain extensive experience in all McTear’s departments. Practical involvement in departments which include Pictures, Asian Works of Art, Jewellery, Ceramics & Glass, Silver and Whisky will provide you with the best possible experience of working life in a leading auction house.

Terms, Conditions, Payment and Hours
The Internship Gateway programme has a limited number of places and candidates are expected to be available to work on a full-time basis for the eight days. The Six Week Internship offers the option of part-time or full-time work. Although unpaid, reasonable agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed, along with vouchers for McTear’s Café. The standard hours of work are Monday-Friday 8.30am-5pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am-12noon. Graduates will also be required to work on weekend viewings and evening auctions on a rota basis.

Dress Code
Appropriate attire is expected of all Graduate Interns. A business suit is required, with a shirt and tie for men.

Eligibility
We undertake a selection process with examples of criteria including:
  • History of Art Graduate (or other relevant subject)
  • Those with previous work experience in the Art Sector
